The Tea Report
Fantastic tea laid on by Mr Cricket-Club for Berkswell game
Atherstone
were revelling in the glory of their incredible one wicket win over Berkswell
on Saturday (28th August 2000) but some of the more portly members of
the side will remember this fixture for the tremendous tea laid on by
club secretary, fixtures secretary, youth team facilitator, acting chairman,
groundsman and all round good egg, Paul Oldham. Here are just some of
the highlights...
- The much vaunted return of salad to club teas, nearly twelve years
to the day after it’s last appearance.
- Cucumber and tomato, chopped and placed in attractive bowls.
- Home made cakes.
- Scones with fresh cream which caused a rift between several players as they
brawled over the last one.
- Egg.
- Malt loaf, sliced, buttered and artistically presented.
Players were yesterday debating whether this was the heralding of a
new era, but Mat Jones poured scorn on the idea when he announced that
he would be going to Aldi next week to get the ingredients for his special “Prison-food” menu.
Rumours of players due to be eating dog biscuits and pigeon lie were
unconfirmed by Jones at the time of going to press.
