Chris Horton

Chris Horton
FULL NAME: Christopher James Horton

DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH: 11.1.75 Enfield

HEIGHT: 6'0"

WEIGHT: 11stone

DEBUT: v Newdigate 1987 aged twelve. The second team needed an extra player, so I fielded and went in number eleven for an over while Mark Simpson defended the last over for a one point losing draw.

NICKNAMES: Tesco, Mr Burns, Ears

FAMILY: Mum - Pat, and Dad - Peter, brother - Richard, 24

JOB: Work in financial management in the NHS

CRICKETING ROLE: Batsman, joke bowler and cover fielder. Occasional wicket-keeper

HIGHEST SCORE: 78 while at University

BEST BOWLING: 5-39 v Mosley Arms Fitmen in 1998

OTHER SPORTS PLAYED: Football, hockey, five a side. Used to play rugby at Nuneaton RFC for four years

FAVOURITE DRINK: I'll get crucified for this but Robinson's Summer Fruits flavoured fruit and barley squash!

OTHER POINTS OF INTEREST: Captain of second XI in 1998, captain of Sunday XI for several years, Thursday captain for coming season, Club member for 14 years, Committee member for 11 years, Treasurer since 1999, Clubman of the year in 2000, also went to school and used to play in the same football team as Steve Webster (Pro golfer) and once won money off him in a putting competition on the landing at my parent's house

MOST MEMORABLE ATHERSTONE MOMENT: So many to choose from! Winning the Clubman award last year was a great honour, the 10th wicket partnership between Vic Clements and Steve Healey to beat Berkswell last season, putting on 160 for the first wicket against Witherley in the last game of 1999, my first fifty - hitting 69no to beat Kenilworth Wardens when we were at one stage 0-3 chasing 163 to win, but probably the best was beating Standard away in 1998 on the hottest day of the year with half a side. We lost the toss, five people had never played before, and I had to keep wicket! Only three of the team had ever hit league fifties before and one of them, Martin Plackett fell for a duck. Chasing 160-odd, we won by eight wickets thanks to Stan Riley and Adi Williams but it was a great team win.
